Colchester Hub Early Years Foundation Stage

Curriculum Intent

The Colchester school’s EYFS curriculum is designed to encourage and promote curious, independent, creative leaners. We have carefully designed a curriculum that covers the 7 areas of the EYFS with breadth and balance, is ambitious in its content, and pays strong consideration to the Early Learning Goals and the national curriculum expectations that await our learners in their next phase of learning. We strive to celebrate and nurture the uniqueness of our learners, capitalising on their individual strengths, interests and passions, whilst simultaneously igniting curiosity by introducing them to new experiences and concepts.

Alongside the 7 curriculum areas, the Characteristics of Effective Teaching and Learning (COETL) are embedded into our curriculum delivery. We intend to teach, nurture and facilitate opportunities for children to acquire and develop these learning behaviours that will be transferrable and applicable throughout their education.

Our indoor and outdoor classrooms provide learners with rich, engaging, effective continuous provision and regular enhancements. These enabling environments give children opportunities to explore their own interests, practise, develop and embed skills learnt, and facilitate endless ways to be creative and imaginative.

Our curriculum enables our learners to develop physically, verbally, cognitively and emotionally, whilst also embedding a positive attitude to school and a love of learning.
